These terms cover using this website and taking part in anything the Gurugram Amateur Runners Club organises. The most important part is the section on risk, because running is a physical activity and you take part at your own risk. Please read that one properly even if you skip the rest.
Who these terms are between
They are between you and the Gurugram Amateur Runners Club, an amateur running club operating in and around Gurugram, Haryana, and online. In these terms “we”, “us” and “the club” mean the club; “you” means anyone using this website or taking part in club activities.
By using this website, joining a group run, or booking any service, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site or take part.
Running is a physical activity, and you take part at your own risk
This is the section that matters most, so we will not bury it in small print.
Running, strength training and every other activity the club organises carry a genuine risk of injury, and in rare cases of serious injury or death. That risk exists whether or not a coach is present, whether or not you follow the advice given, and whether or not you are fit. Cardiac events during exercise are rare but real; musculoskeletal injuries are common.
By taking part you confirm that:
- You are voluntarily choosing to take part, knowing those risks
- You are medically fit to do so, or have been cleared by a doctor
- You accept responsibility for your own safety, and for stopping when you should
- You will tell the coach about any condition, injury or medication that affects your participation
- You will follow reasonable safety instructions given by club organisers
You are responsible for your own conduct on the road: traffic, other pedestrians, road surfaces, dogs, and the decisions you make about when to cross and where to run. The club runs in public places it does not control.
See a doctor first if any of this applies
Please get medical clearance before taking part if you have, or think you may have, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease, asthma, a recent surgery, a current injury, or if you are pregnant — or if you experience chest discomfort, unusual breathlessness, dizziness, palpitations or fainting during exertion.
If you feel chest pain, become confused, or collapse while exercising, stop immediately and call 108 or 112.
Nothing here is medical advice
Everything on this website — the guides, the research summaries, the self-assessment screens, the pace calculator, the chatbot and any training plan the coach writes for you — is general information and coaching, not medical advice. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment, and not a substitute for seeing a qualified clinician.
Specifically:
- The club’s coaching staff are qualified in physical education and strength and conditioning. They are not doctors, physiotherapists or dietitians.
- The self-assessment screens are self-scored by you. They cannot see you move, they do not diagnose anything, and a good score is not medical clearance.
- The chatbot answers by quoting articles already published on this site. It will refuse questions about pain, injury or medical conditions, and it should. Do not try to work around that.
- We will not write a rehabilitation programme from a form. That requires someone who can physically examine you.
Never delay seeking medical advice, or disregard advice you have been given, because of something you read here.
About the information on this site
We take accuracy seriously. Our guides cite the primary research, we quote effect sizes and confidence intervals rather than headlines, and we say so when the evidence is weak or when we have got something wrong and corrected it.
Even so: we provide the site’s content “as is”. Research changes, we may make mistakes, and reasonable experts disagree. In particular:
- The race calendar is compiled from organisers’ own announcements. Dates, entry windows, fees and routes change without notice. Always confirm on the organiser’s official website before entering or travelling. We are not the organiser of those events and have no control over them.
- The pace calculator produces estimates from a formula. It is not a prediction of what you will run, and it is optimistic for the marathon.
- Guides and research summaries reflect the evidence as we understood it on the date shown. If you spot an error, tell us and we will correct it.
Things you post
If you submit a run, a race result, a photograph or a comment for publication:
- You confirm it is yours to submit, and that anyone identifiable in a photograph is content to appear
- You give us permission to publish it on this website and the club’s social media
- You can ask us to take it down at any time, and we will
- We may decline to publish, or remove, anything abusive, misleading, unlawful, or promotional
Content posted by members is theirs, not ours. We do not verify claimed times or distances.
How to behave
This is a club, so the rules are short. Do not harass, abuse or discriminate against anyone. Do not give other members medical advice. Do not use the club’s runs or channels to sell things. Do not misuse the website or try to break it. We may ask anyone who does these things to leave, without a refund.
Our content
The text, guides, charts and design on this site belong to the club. You are welcome to read, print and share links freely. Please do not republish substantial portions elsewhere without asking — but do quote us with a link if we are useful to you.
Other people’s websites and events
We link to race organisers, research papers and other sites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy, their pricing or what happens if you use them. Booking a race through an organiser is a contract between you and that organiser.
Fees
Most of what the club offers is free. Where fees apply, they are agreed with you before booking and are governed by our refund policy, which forms part of these terms. Service fees are non-refundable, subject to the exceptions set out there.
Limits on our liability
We take our responsibilities seriously and we carry them out honestly. But we should be clear about the limits.
To the extent the law allows, the club, its coaches and its organisers are not liable for injury, loss or damage arising from your participation in club activities or your use of this website, including where it arises from following general information published here. That includes loss of earnings, missed races, entry fees paid to third parties, and consequential loss of any kind.
Where we are found liable despite the above, our total liability is limited to the amount you have actually paid the club in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim — which, for most people, is nothing, because most of what we do is free.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Your statutory rights are unaffected by anything written here.
Indemnity
If a claim is brought against the club because you broke these terms, took part while medically unfit without telling us, or posted something you had no right to post, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of dealing with it.
Photographs at club activities
We take photographs at group runs and events and publish them. If you would rather not appear, tell an organiser and we will keep you out of shot; if something is already published, email us and we will remove it. See the data protection policy.
Your information
How we handle what you give us is set out in our privacy policy and data protection policy, which form part of these terms.
Children
Anyone under eighteen must have a parent or guardian’s consent to take part, and should be accompanied by them at group runs. This website is not directed at children.
Ending things
You can stop using the site or leave the club at any time. We may ask someone to leave where they have behaved in a way that puts others at risk or breaks these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version that applies to you is the one published on the day you used the site or booked a service. Material changes will be flagged by the date at the top of this page.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Gurugram, Haryana.
